Whether or not your F-150 has the EcoBoost® system, at Wendle Ford, we want to make certain your truck performs at its best and that you can drive further on each gallon of gas you buy.  Fuel economy is good for you and your wallet.  There are a number of easy steps you can take to drive more efficiently.

Replace the Spark Plugs

This sounds simple, but it can have a big impact on the operation of your truck.  Did you know that having bad spark plugs can decrease your gas mileage by 30%?  That’s what the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence says.  Contact our Wendle Ford Service and our experienced staff can check your plugs and change them if needed.

Low Tire Pressure

The U. S. Department of Energy states that 1.25 billion…that’s billion with a B…gallons of gas are lost yearly due to underinflated tires.  Be sure to check the recommended pressure required for your tires.  You should be able to see the proper amount stamped on the tire.

Driving Habits

Speeding, accelerating quickly and hard braking can reduce your gas mileage.  Anticipating what is going on ahead and coasting for a bit prior to stopping will not only help in using less gas, but it will also be better on your brakes.

Plan Your Trips

Scheduling your trips can save you fuel.  Each time you take off in your truck with a cold engine you can use more gas.  So if you run your errands in one voyage out, your engine will be warm and save you time and money.

Remove Heavy Cargo

Using you truck to store your golf clubs and other non-essential items?  The extra weight will reduce your MPG.  Remove unnecessary items and add money in your pocket.

Idling

A truck parked and idling does nothing to improve your gas mileage.  Depending on the vehicle, an engine can burn up one quarter to one half gallon of fuel per hour.  If possible, shut off your engine when you will be stopped for a length of time.

Use Cruise Control

Driving at a steady speed on highways will help save gas.  Lock your speed and know that you are helping with your truck’s gas consumption.  Keep in mind that gas mileage usually declines when driving over 50 MPH.

There you have it, our list of tips and tricks to get the most out of your Ford F-150 truck’s gasoline.  Ready to cruise down the highway in a new ride?  Check out the inventory we have online.  While you’re at it, see how easy it is to get pre-approved for financing.   Then come see our awesome staff to learn all about of the available options on your new truck.
