In the early 1900s, the city of Spokane brought in the sons of acclaimed architect Frederick Law Olmsted to design a new community. They transformed an area of parkland into the beautiful Rockland neighborhood. Today, this area is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. As one of Spokane’s oldest neighborhoods, Rockwood’s tree-lined streets and elegant homes cater to a more mature crowd.
While schools, restaurants, and businesses are few and far between in this urban area, quality of life is high and nature is everywhere. If you enjoy spending time outdoors, Rockwood features a variety of exceptional nature walks and parks. You’ll find plenty of wineries to visit in the area. You can even walk to Spokane Public Market, Riverfront Park, or the Spokane Convention Center.
Lincoln Heights
If you’ve lived in Spokane for a while, the words Lincoln Heights likely conjure visions of the shopping mall that bears the same name. However, there’s so much more to this neighborhood than meets the eye. In fact, this community consists of a unique mix of parks, ponds, wetlands, and schools. There are plenty of activities geared for people of all ages. Homes lining the streets of Lincoln Park feature everything from early 1900s craftsman to mid-century ranchers and modern split-level homes. There’s something for everyone in Lincoln Heights.
This up-and-coming neighborhood has a bevy of bars, restaurants, grocery stores, coffee shops, and other services. It’s all within an easy walk of most homes. Manito-Cannon Hill
Manito-Cannon Hill neighborhood was intentionally designed and is now well-maintained. It’s one of the most desirable places to live in Spokane thanks to its location at Manito and Cannon Hill parks. This upscale community is one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in Spokane, and many residents have lived in the area for years. While most homes in Manito-Cannon Hill were built in the 1920s and 1930s, some streets feature newer homes from the 1990s.
Manito-Cannon Hill has plenty of neighborhood shopping, theaters, restaurants, banking, and other services. Favorite local hangouts include The Scoop for ice cream and Rocket Bakery for a tasty cup of joe. On top of that, the area is home to several schools, including one of the state’s top elementary schools. This location is ideal for families. Conveniently located near downtown Spokane, you’ll find easy access to other parts of the city via the U.S. Highway 2 and two Spokane Transit bus lines.
North Indian Trail
In Northwestern Spokane city, the neighborhood of North Indian Trail gets its name from the Indian Trail Road. Despite the newness of the homes in the area, the community has a rich history. For centuries, the road served as a link between the Columbia River and the Little Spokane River. It was used by early Native Americans, fur trappers, pioneers, and prospectors to reach Spokane from the northwest. Today, the neighborhood is a haven for families with children, retirees, singles, and professionals.
If you want to live outside the city, North Indian Trail has just what you’re after. In addition to its shopping district, North Indian Trail gives residents direct access to nature. From mature pine trees to valleys and native grasses, the landscape sets this neighborhood apart. Comstock

People living in Comstock will end their commute downtown in less than 10 minutes. In addition, there’s a host of nearby restaurants, banks, health providers, and shops, including Manito Shopping Center. You simply can’t go wrong. In Comstock, you’ll find an established, family-oriented community with recreational amenities. At Comstock Park, take a dip into a large, public pool, play a game of basketball, or practice your tennis swing. You can explore 25 miles of hiking at South Hill Bluff, watch the sunset over the Latah Valley along Scenic High Drive, or bask under trees as you walk Manito Boulevard.
