Two sets of Ford key fobs with one key removed and a Wendle key chain.

UGH!  You go to get to your Ford vehicle and your key fob is dead and you don’t have a replacement battery available.   What to do??  How do you get in?  How do you drive?  We got you covered with some helpful tips.

It may be small, but your key fob is powerful.  Not only is it used to start your vehicle, but it holds the secret to getting inside and driving when the remote battery has run dry.

Step One

There is a mini key inside your fob and it can be used like a regular key.  Remove the key from the key fob.  Each vehicle model may have a different manner to retrieve the key.  If needed, view your owner’s manual for instructions on how to get your key from your specific key fob.

Step Two

Use the mechanical key to unlock the door at the door handle of the driver’s side.  After opening, replace the key back inside the key fob.

Step Three

Now that you are in the vehicle, you will need to place your key fob in the appropriate location in your vehicle so that it can be recognized.  Once the key fob is properly placed, you can start your vehicle as normal.  Each model has its own location to place the key fob for starting.  You can review your owner’s manual for the specific location.  When you find the slot, insert the key as noted on the diagram on the slot.  Now start your vehicle as normal.
