Are you among those who do not like to parallel park?  Is it something you practiced like crazy to pass your driving test to get a driver’s license, but avoid it now at all costs?  With Ford’s Active Park Assist, you can parallel park with ease.  No more driving around to find an easier parking spot.

How to Use Ford Active Park Assist

For parallel parking assistance:

  1. Press the Active Park Assist button one time.
  2. Use the turn signal to tell the system which side to search.
  3. An information screen will appear on the center display and the system will begin scanning for a parking spot.
  4. When an appropriate spot is found, you will hear a chime and a space found message will appear on the touchscreen.
  5. At this time, bring your vehicle to a stop, take your hands off the steering wheel, shift into neutral, release the brake pedal, then press and hold the Active Park Assist button.
  6. Follow the prompts on the touchscreen.

For backing into a perpendicular, non-angular or traditional parking spot:

  1. Press the Active Park Assist button twice.
  2. Press the Park option on the touchscreen.
  3. Use the turn signal to tell the system which side you want to park on.
  4. Pull past the cars you want to park near.
  5. Follow the same steps as with parallel parking.

For getting out of a parking space:

  1. Press the Active Park Assist button one time.
  2. The system will ask if you want to use the Park Out feature.
  3. If so, choose the Park Out option on the touchscreen.
  4. Use the turn signal to tell the system the direction you want to go.
  5. Shift into neutral, take your foot off the brake pedal, take your hands off the steering wheel, press and hold the Active Park Assist button.
  6. Follow the prompts on the touchscreen.

Tips

You can always slow down or stop the vehicle during the process by pressing the brake pedal.

You can cancel at any time by letting go of the button, grabbing the steering wheel or shifting out of neutral.

For the system to work properly, the sensors must be clear of snow, ice or mud.
