How to Set Up the Pro Trailer Backup Assist
Before using the system, it needs to be set up.
- Attach the trailer to the truck.
- Line up the truck and trailer, facing in the same direction, in a straight line and on a level surface.
- Follow the instructions to install the trailer sensor kit that came with the system. The kit include a dock station, the sensor and housing, a 10-foot wire harness, large and small tie straps and the sensor mounting bracket.
- Press the Trailer Backup knob to turn it on, follow the instructions displayed on the touchscreen to calibrate the trailer.
How to Use the Pro Trailer Backup Assist
- Press the Trailer Backup knob to turn it on.
- Shift into reverse.
- Remove hands from the steering wheel.
- While backing up, use the knob to turn left or right and the trailer steers in that direction.
- As soon as the knob is released or turned back to the center position, the truck will start following the trailer’s path.
- Turn and hold the knob continuously for sharper vehicle and trailer turns.

The Pro Trailer Backup Assist is available on the XL, XLT, LARIAT, King Ranch, F-150 Tremor, F-150 Raptor and Platinum.
