Spokane is located in one of the most beautiful regions of the Pacific Northwest, and it is full of unique and interesting campgrounds that let you experience nature. Whether you want to put up a tent or enjoy the comforts of an RV, you’ll find that the campgrounds are accommodating to all of your camping needs. At Wendle Ford in Spokane, Washington, we have a great selection of vehicles that you can use to tow RVs, transport pop-up tents, or convert into temporary living quarters for camping. Here’s a look at places to camp in and around Spokane.

Bowl and Pitcher Campground, Riverside State Park

The Bowl and Pitcher campground at Riverside State Park has 30 sites for tent camping and offers partial hookups for RVs. It’s located to the northwest of Spokane and is easily accessible for those towing a camper or using a camper top on their new Ford pickup. You can make a reservation for a campsite, and you’ll have access to the restrooms and showers. The site gets its name from the basalt outcroppings found on the riverbanks of the Spokane River. The outcroppings are easily viewed from a nearby suspension bridge, which was built during the Civilian Conservation Corps program that ran from 1932 to 1944.

Riverside State Park is home to 55 miles of mixed-use trails that allow mountain bikers, horseback riders, hikers, and rock climbers. Visitors can engage in paddle sports on the Little Spokane River or bring their boats for other watersports and fishing. During the winter, you can snowshoe, cross-country ski, and snowmobile.

Liberty Lake Regional Park

Liberty Lake Regional Park is located in the southeast part of Spokane near the Idaho-Washington border. While it’s not nearly as large as Riverside State Park, it has natural features that are worth making the trip to see. The 3,600-acre park contains wetlands, montane forests, lakeshores, and waterfalls. It features 17 RV sites and 10 areas for tents. It also has cabins and group sites available for reservation. Guests who are staying overnight have access to a central waste system for sewage disposal, fully operational restrooms, and hot shower facilities.

Visitors to Liberty Lake Regional Park can enjoy activities and amenities that include horseback riding or hiking on the trails, a barbecue pit, fishing on the lake, swimming, a playground for kids, and picnic shelters. The most popular trail is the Liberty Lake Loop Trail, which is an 8.3-mile trail that circles the lake. If you’re coming with an RV, don’t follow the GPS directions to the park. Follow the travel directions on the website instead, and avoid winding up in the wrong location.

Camp Coeur d’Alene

Camp Coeur d’Alene is a popular campground that features access to its namesake lake. The campground offers amazing views of the surrounding mountains, and the wildlife is easy to spot from wherever you are. You can reserve a spot for your RV and have the option to pick a pull-through spot or a back-in for campers, trailers, and motor homes. Each site has a fire pit, picnic table, water, electric, and sewer. Most sites are large enough for a 28-foot motor home, but there are some larger spaces available. Tent spaces and cabin rentals are available as well. Amenities include free Wi-Fi, restrooms, electrical service, laundry facilities, pet stations, and free firewood.

Once you’ve decided on how you want to visit the site, you can enjoy all that the camp has to offer. You’ll find a heated pool, a playground, canoes for guests, hiking trails, and cornhole boards. The park is pet-friendly and offers pet cleanup-bag stations. Camp Coeur d’Alene makes camping easy for visitors who want to enjoy the beauty of the lake without leaving their creature comforts at home.

Heyburn State Park

Heyburn State Park has the honor of being the oldest park in the Pacific Northwest as well as being one of the most popular. The park features stands of ponderosa pines that open up to sprawling meadows that are filled with flowers during the warmer months. It contains 5,744 acres of land with trails that wind throughout the park, and 2,332 acres of water for boating and fishing. In fact, the park contains three lakes: Hidden Lakes, Benewah, and Chatcolet. The park also hosts the St. Joe River on the eastern boundary of the park. Visitors are welcome to hike, bike, or horseback ride on the trails and bring their own boat for the water. Canoe, kayak, or stand-up paddleboards are available to rent.

GPS maps to the park are incorrect, but the website has the correct directions to get into the park by car or RV. There are over 50 sites for RVs, and tent campers have 38 sites on the Chatcolet Campground section of the park. All of the campsites have showers and working restrooms for the convenience of campers. You can also reserve a site to guarantee your spot. Also, check the website for fire restrictions, which will dictate what is acceptable to bring for cooking. The park is open in the winter, but some sites are closed for camping during the colder months.

Palouse Falls

Palouse Falls is a stunning destination that centers around an active, 200-foot waterfall. It’s a two-hour drive from Spokane, but it’s a journey worth making to see the Pacific Northwest’s version of the Grand Canyon. The waterfall is surrounded by a basalt canyon that’s been carved out by the river over the millennia. Camping at the falls consists of 11 campsites with little in the way of amenities. Campers have access to shade structures and a vault toilet, but no water or electricity is available on-site. The Starbuck/Lyons Ferry Marina KOA is a short distance away for those who need a more civilized camping experience.
