A computer chip.

For the past year, the chip shortage has lead to decreased production for Ford Motor Company and many other manufacturers.  See how this may affect getting your new car under the Christmas tree.

What is the Chip Shortage?

As the COVID-19 pandemic progressed, factories and businesses shut down.  Among those shutdowns were manufacturers of chips needed in automobiles.  The continual shutdown created a backlog demand-chips needed for current vehicles and those needed for future production.  Besides the chip shortage, there was also a shutdown of ports, causing another lag in getting chips to where they needed to be.  When ports reopened, it caused yet another backlog of getting the chips out and included a shortage of labor to move the products.  The disruption in the supply chain has lead to a shortage of vehicles on our lot.

Unfortunately, a shortage of vehicles is not the only issue we are encountering.  The shutdown of ports and the shortage of drivers has also impacted the shipping of parts to our service department.  Our staff is working hard to service our customers in the best way possible.  But if you have come to the point of needing to replace your car, you do have options.
