In today’s fast-paced world, electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming increasingly popular for eco-conscious drivers  who seek a greener and more sustainable way to navigate the roads.  Our Spokane community, from here to Coeur d’Alene and even over to Seattle, are all at the forefront of this green movement by providing a network of user-friendly public vehicle charging stations.  It’s never been easier to charge at a public station.  Explore with us how simple it is to charge your EV in the heart of Spokane and outlining areas.

Locating Public Charging Stations

One of the key factors that make EV ownership seamless in Spokane is the city’s well-established network of public charging stations.  Stations are strategically located throughout Spokane from downtown districts to suburban neighborhoods.  Did you know that Ford offers the Blue Oval Charge Network?  It’s the largest public charging network in North America with thousands of charging locations across the country.  And…you can use your FordPass App to find charging stations near you.  Apply filters to find the type of charger you want and other options.  When you plug in, the card you have attached to your app will automatically be charged.

How to Charge At a Charging Station

  1. When you arrive at a charging station, pull your EV into the designated charging bay.  Ensure that your vehicle is properly aligned with the charging equipment, allowing for easy access to the charging port.
  2. The vehicle must be in park mode.  The vehicle will not allow the driver to shift out of park while plugged in and charging.  This will relieve the concern of driving off while still plugged in.
  3. When you are ready to charge, using the FordPass App, select View Chargers.  It detects your charging location through your phone’s GPS and directs you to the charging activation page. Confirm that you’re at the right charger by looking at the name of the charger on the station and the name of the charger on the app.  Once you’re confirmed, click Activate.  If you do not use the FordPass App, you can use a debit or credit card to pay for your charge.
  4. Open the charge port door.
  5. For AC charging, plug the coupler into the vehicle’s charge port.  You will hear it click into place.  The charge status indicator light ring will illuminate solid white when plugged in properly.  If you see an orange light, this is an indication of a fault.  If the light is flashing, there’s an issue with the charger.  If the light is solid, the issue is with the vehicle.  The blue charge status indicator light helps to track the progress of the charging of the vehicle.  Each of the five zones represents a 20% charge status.  A blinking light indicates the zone that is currently in the process of charging.  When charging stops, all charged zones will remain lit solid blue for 30 seconds.  For DC charging, open the dust cap to expose the lower connectors before plugging in.  Then follow the steps above.
  6. To remove the charge coupler from the vehicle, push the unlock button in the middle of the charge status indicator light ring, then press the latch on the coupler and unplug it from the vehicle.  Return the charger to the holster.  Close the charge port door.
